What traveling as two changes here
- Traveling alone
- Works, but the room is the problem. The single supplement here runs about 60 percent of the shared rate because both hotels price by room, not by head
- Two of you
- The shape this trip was built for. Both hotels hold twin and double, the car takes two comfortably, and nothing on the itinerary needs a third person
- With children
- Possible from about eight. Below that the levada walks are the wrong shape: narrow, unfenced in places, and long
- Six or more together
- Six or more loses the point. The hotels are small and cannot hold three rooms on the same nights in high season without splitting you across floors
- How the rooms work
- Two rooms maximum at each property, and they are not adjoining. Ask early if that matters
- If one of the party drops out
- The car booking drops to a smaller class and the rate per head rises. The hotels allow a name change up to fourteen days out at no charge
- What the party does together
- Almost all of it. There is no group and no guide, so the day is whatever the two of you decide over breakfast
- Who this one is not for
- Anybody who wants a resort with everything on site. This is a driving and walking island and the hotels are places to sleep
The last two rows lose this office bookings and they stay on the page anyway. A trip that does not suit the people you are bringing is cheaper to find out about here than at the airport.

What is not included
- Getting to the island, priced on its own as soon as your dates settle
- Every dinner and every lunch, which on this island is the whole point
- Fuel and the tunnel tolls, which are small but real
- The excess reduction on the car, which we will explain and which you may want
- The cable car and the toboggan run, both bought on the day
- Anything for a third or fourth traveler: this figure is per person on two sharing

No payment is taken on this website. You pay the operator directly and this office never sees a card.
Which weeks are worth paying more for
April to June and September to October. The island is green all year, which is the selling point, but the north coast is genuinely wet in winter and the levada walks stop being pleasant.
August fills with families from the mainland and the hotels raise rates without improving. If you want August, say so and we will price a different island.
What gets settled when you confirm
Which coast takes the first four nights, which depends on your flight times. Whether the car is four days or seven, because a car parked outside a hotel for three days is money doing nothing. The room grade at the northern hotel, where the difference between the two categories is a view and eighty dollars a night. And the walk card, which we write to your pace rather than printing a standard one.
