What traveling on your own changes here
- Traveling alone
- The reason people take this as a group rather than independently. The single supplement is $520; what it buys is somebody else holding the rail tickets and doing the talking
- Two of you
- The most common shape on this departure. Twin or double everywhere, no change to the figure
- With children
- From twelve. The sites are large, hot and made of brick, and younger children run out of interest by the third city
- Six or more together
- Eight or more is welcome and the operator will hold a whole carriage section on the rail legs. Ask early: the trains sell out
- How the rooms work
- Singles with the supplement at all four hotels. Twins and doubles at the per head rate
- If one of the party drops out
- Rail tickets here are issued to a name and are not transferable, so a cancellation loses the ticket cost. Everything else refunds under the operator's ordinary terms
- What the party does together
- Sightseeing days together, evenings free. The rail legs are together because the seats are booked as a block
- Who this one is not for
- Anybody unwilling to cover shoulders and knees at the religious sites, which is not optional and is checked at the door
The last two rows lose this office bookings and they stay on the page anyway. A trip that does not suit the people you are bringing is cheaper to find out about here than at the airport.

What it costs

- What it covers
- 11 nights, a small group of no more than sixteen, rail between cities.
- What it assumes
- Two people sharing a room, unless the party rows above say otherwise for your case.
- What moves it
- The month, the room grade, how far ahead you book, and above all the size and shape of your party.
- When it becomes a number
- At confirmation, in writing, with the operator named. Until then it is the bottom of a real range and nothing more.
No payment is taken on this website. You pay the operator directly and this office never sees a card.
The months that work, and the ones we would talk you out of
April, May, September and October. Those four months are the whole season and they are not negotiable: July and August reach temperatures where the brick sites become genuinely unpleasant before ten in the morning.
Winter is cold and several of the smaller sites close. We sell the shoulder months only.
What gets settled when you confirm
The single supplement, if you want your own room. Which direction the route runs, since starting and finishing at different cities changes your flights. Whether you want the extra night we can add at the end, which most people take. And the departure, since the rail block is what limits the group size.
